Can I backup my information?

Yes, we highly recommend using some sort of backup services to keep an off-site backup if possible.  Another option is to use a local backup to an external drive.

To find your data, you can read this topic about moving from one computer to another.  Not all the steps will apply to backup, but it explains where the data can be found.  You could consider it like "moving your data to a backup" drive also, which would be similar.
